Counter Culture: The Curse of Online Status

by Aaron Dezonie

The latest documentary from young British director Hamish Stephenson. Focusing on the concept of ‘internet celebrity’, ‘Counter Culture: The Curse of Online Status’ is an honest and revealing window into the impact of online status on innovation.

Throughout the documentary, Hamish interviews a variety of influential people on the topic, ranging from academics such as Rob Phillips, Creative Director of London College of Fashion, to industry pros such as Greg Mishka, to online influencers such as Mike the Ruler and Glyn Brown. It’s an interesting assessment of modern times that acts as a catalyst for debate rather than a provider of answers. With the digital age continuing to speed up everything we do and maximise our potential outreach while minimising costs, it’s a fascinating time to be looking at what effects this is having now and may have in the future.
